Hi, not an early war idea as such but Der Alts idea of re playing civies is something I'd be well up for. Basically a fair amount of Germans, lots of civies and one or two SOE. My main pull is the idea that civies can not carry weapons that can be seen without being engaged by the German leading to a lot of pistols and hiding rifles, etc.

Something like out of Black Book might be a suitable scenario or smuggling airmen out of France and Belgium. Secret Army like (or Allo Allo if you must)

We did this at Arnhem (March 07) ....Dutch civvies were able to move around without being shot if unarmed, but if they were wearing orange armbands they could carry guns and be shot as well . There were a lot of dodgy Allo Allo accetns , and false cameraderie with the Germans . a lot relies on the people oplaying the role, at Arnhem they were superb , and played their own game with their own objectives totally sperate to the two main sides, and yet added to the "main" battle in a huge way . 'twas a cracker we'd like to revisit . ...and er ...ahem .... you may have come across that idea again last June as well where it worked just as well.....

Yes, at Operation Haggard (last July), the civvies were neutral until "captured" by either side. They then worked for that side until they were "captured" by the other side. They were not allowed to be shot at unless they displayed suspicious behaviour (like running away or failing to stop when challenged) or were carrying a visible firearm. I think the civvies at Haggard had a whale of a time from all accounts, and were used quite successfully by the Allies as scouts.

On the subject of an Africa game and the lack of a suitable site I discovered one today that could have potential. Its a quarry at Kirton nr Boston, Lincs, used by the Lincolnshire airsoft club. I can't believe I've never heard of it before- I only live 20 miles away. I'd say it looks more arid than desert but it seems quite a bit bigger than The Rock at Portland. Anyone been there/know what its like?

I've not been there but the biggest problem (apart from you) is it's in Lincolnshire - almost completely inaccessible from the rest of the country (with good reason ).

Still, yes, on a hot day that looks good - not much cover though!

Well it is near Boston so I'm surprised its not cordoned off from the outside world completely.

There does seem to be lack of cover, I guess we'll just have to do it properly- use lots of vehicles or dig trenches.

Well, you asked for it! The UK's first early war event. Camouflage-free, this will see the Germans in feldgrau and the Brits in brown (heh, even a bit of blue as the RAF can join in).

I'm not sure the French wore blue then - as far as I remember they abandoned the light blue kit very early on.
Still, up for discussion in the unlikely event someone wants to come as a Frenchy! However, RAF types would be very cool...

The uniform would also work for Polish in France, if the 'French' thing gets to you. Originally on arriving in France they were equipped, those that even were, with the horizon blues but after a bit of badgering, and the slightly more imminent German 'involvement' they were equipped with the French Khaki uniforms.

Poles are tricky as they had 3 distinctly different (4 counting Berling's soviet force) uniforms, but also easy as the post 1940 uniform was British with a badge or two different, and the 1940 one was French - again with different badges.

Of course for the highest degree of early war funkometric aceness Norway has to win, as the Poles get a cape and a feather on the helmet (also a Swastika )
